The Etonic Running Shoe Line -
Support, Performance, Value

The Etonic running shoe line was very popular in the 1970s. At the time, they were one of the most technically advanced running shoes and it had a huge following of diehard runners. It was one of the first companies to develop shoes that emphasized injury prevention with technologies such as medial posting and EVA foam, which helped promote healthier running. Due to a number of corporate restructurings Etonic remained low key in recent years, but has recently come out with an impressive line of shoes that can help them get the ball rolling again. Etonic running shoes feature firmer cushion and a nifty flex plate designed to give a runner lots of acceleration and spring. A little on the heavy side, but the substantial cushioning underneath more than makes up for this. There is one shoe, though, that is very soft, flexible, and lightweight. That shoe is the Praya, which is made for runners with high arches. The rest of Etonics are either stability or motion control shoes, and these are some of the most supportive running shoes I've ever tried on. Another thing that makes Etonics stand out is how highly durable they are. They can take quite a beating across a number of different surfaces and lasted me the entire 400 miles that I expect out of running shoes. The price for Etonics isn't too shabby either. FYI, I personally had to get a half size longer than my usual running shoe size because they are made a little short and narrow, for my feet at least.

I've listed the rather small shoe line that Etonic has below. Whenever possible, I add the following notations where appropriate to help you get your ideal fit.

  • Standard - for people weighing under 150 pounds.
  • Advanced - for people weighing over 150 pounds.
  • Performance - for speed workouts and racing. The more you weigh the shorter the distance you should be running in these types of shoes.
  • Trail - for off road running (i.e. through dirt, loose gravel, mud, water, etc.).
