The Brooks Running Shoe Company -
The Industry's Running Specialist

Of all the brands, The Brooks running shoe company makes the highest quality running shoes. I guess this is crucial to their business because while all the other brands like to dabble into other sports, Brooks only makes running products. Brooks is essentially a specialist at running.

A Brooks looks as if it was sculpted from one piece instead of being glued together by different sources. They are also the most durable shoe I've ever had. In fact, the cushioning in a Brooks will out live the rest of the shoe (i.e. rubber outsole and upper). This ensures that mile three or four hundred will feel just as good as mile one.

One thing you'll notice about Brooks right off the bat is they have highly advanced designs. Just looking at their shoes makes me think, "very technical." While most other companies concentrate on improving one or two technologies in their shoes (i.e. shock absorbers and cushion) and just formulate generic solutions to the rest of the shoe, Brooks likes to perfect every single component of the shoe so the runner is getting maximum performance at each specific point in his step. This is quite noticeable since they like to mark where they placed their latest and greatest technology on the shoe. Every brand does this, but Brooks has more types of technologies and does it more often.

I like how Brooks running shoes fit like a glove around my feet. That is also what I usually hear from customers whenever I ask them about how Brooks fit on them, "glove-like." I also like how they have cushioning that's not too soft, but on the firmer side. This makes their shoes "faster" than other brands. Shoes that are too soft make me feel unstable whenever I run. All of their shoes, even their supportive ones, have good forefoot flexibility, so they move gracefully with the foot while giving the proper amount of stability relative to the shoe type.

They don't have a huge selection, which is a good thing because they can concentrate their efforts on quality not quantity. It also makes it easier to choose a shoe. Nevertheless, below are my top picks for this brand.

Whenever possible, I add the following notations where appropriate to help you get your ideal fit.

  • Standard - for people weighing under 150 pounds.
  • Advanced - for people weighing over 150 pounds.
  • Performance - for speed workouts and racing. The more you weigh the shorter the distance you should be running in these types of shoes.
  • Trail - for off road running (i.e. through dirt, loose gravel, mud, water, etc.).
