The ADIDAS Running Shoe Line -
High Tech Performance

The ADIDAS running shoe line is one of the original brands of the sport. Even since its beginnings in the 1920s, ADIDAS has been a leader of creating specialized running shoes to maximize performance. Their innovativeness has helped great athletes such as Jesse Owens, Steve Prefontaine, and Maurice Green break numerous records and win many championships. Today, ADIDAS is still going strong and its shoes continue to hold a large following amongst all types of runners. As a veteran in the sport of running, ADIDAS will give you some of the most state of the art technologies in the market to allow you to have some of your best running experiences ever.

The best feature of ADIDAS running shoes is the cushioning technology they have in the heel and forefoot. The heel cushion, called Adiprene rubber, does a great job at absorbing impact. I've seen this from a neat demonstration done at an ADIDAS clinic. One of the reps took a ball of Adiprene, and slammed it on the ground as hard as he could. The ball didn't bounce one bit. In fact, it looked as if it stuck to the ground. This meant that the Adiprene blocked the shock return from going through. Now imagine this technology under your heel. Ah, yes, less injuries and a more stable smooth ride. The forefoot cushion, Adiprene Plus, is a totally different animal though. This rubber is still shock absorbent but really bouncy, so when you hit the toe-off phase in your gait cycle your foot gets an extra push. This means higher performance with less fatigue.

Another feature I like about ADIDAS is that they are really flexible. I can even say this about their stability and motion control shoes, which still give lots of support without being as stiff as in other brands. The ride of ADIDAS shoes are extremely smooth and soft. This allows you to have more use of your foot and still avoid injuries.

ADIDAS's shoes fit narrow. Some of their shoes have a round toe box for added comfort, but for the most part they are narrow. However, they have a lot of soft breathable mesh in their uppers' construction. So, they have a performance inspired fit and yet are very comfortable.

ADIDAS is a behemoth of a company and understandably has plenty of shoes out in the market. Below is a list of the better picks for running from their shoe line.

Whenever possible, I add the following notations where appropriate to help you get your ideal fit.

  • Standard - for people weighing under 150 pounds.
  • Advanced - for people weighing over 150 pounds.
  • Performance - for speed workouts and racing. The more you weigh the shorter the distance you should be running in these types of shoes.
